Xmas 2019

In Memory of Gary

In memory of Gary
Many of you now know, on the 30th April this year we lost a very loved and vibrant member of our classes. Anyone who met Gary will remember his energy and individual personality. For me and others he will be so very very missed.

To honour his life and to help others I will be organising a collection for The Samaritans. This charity helps people who may at times feel lost and unheard.

Over the next couple of weeks if you would like to donate then please see me at class. I will then personally pass the donations on to the local branch.

Finally I would like to quote a passage from his funeral:

“You can close your eyes and pray that he’ll come back
or you can do what he would want:
Smile, open your eyes, love and go on.”

Exercise and Happiness

You may have seen the link on my Facebook page to the article 6 Reasons Why Exercise Makes You Happy. It reminds us that the relationship between exercise and the production of the chemical Dopamine, which is known to play a role in happiness, is well known.

The quote below is from Sonja Lyubomirsky, a professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of California, Riverside, and the author of the bestseller The How of Happiness.

Exercise = Happiness

12 reasons you should 'keep up' Pilates

An informative article at last year set out 12 reasons for taking up Pilates. If you attend my classes you've already been persuaded, but it doesn't hurt to remind ourselves of the benefits. According to the author of the article, Abigail Chandler:

  1. It teaches you strength and balance
  2. It’s good for your back
  3. You’ll feel an inch taller after your Pilates class
  4. Your posture will be massively improved
  5. You’ll work muscles you didn’t know you had
  6. It’ll give you abs of steel
  7. You’ll notice the difference in your arms
  8. It’s surprisingly relaxing
  9. You get to play with exercise balls
  10. You have to work at it all the time
  11. The back stretches are pure bliss
  12. It gives you a great sense of achievement

Keep up the good work.
